David Savill
David Savill is the Creative Director of Age Exchange. He specialises in creating programmes that enable vulnerable groups and individuals to express their identity through all art forms. He develops reminiscence arts practice to support and empower people living in care and community settings. His passion and expertise is in the performance of memory. David joined Age Exchange in 1998. He has created and directed many projects and productions working alongside arts professionals and partner organisations in arts, healthcare, heritage and education.
Amongst other recent projects he created: “RADIQL”, Age Exchange’s landmark Reminiscence Arts in Dementia Care intervention, “Combat Stress 100”, the centenary programme for Britain’s oldest military mental health charity, and “Meeting in No Man’s Land” the highly acclaimed Anglo German First World War Centenary documentary and educational programme. His work with older people and with intergenerational groups has resulted in many theatre productions, exhibitions documentary films and publications. He is currently co-directing “Good Company” in Essex, with Orchestras Live, Green Candle Dance, and Brentwood Borough Council - a reimagined form of creative day care for people living with dementia.
David has lectured on his work at many UK universities, as well as trained emerging artists, students, professional care staff, and volunteers in the application of reminiscence arts and person-centred care in the workplace. He has worked on projects, productions and presented at conferences in Germany, Poland, Ireland, Australia, Canada, and the USA.
David is a trustee of the grant giving arts charity The Beckenham Theatre Trust, and Community Transport Waltham Forest.
